How to use

  1. Fill the fields with numbers you measured or were quoted.
  2. Click Calculate.
  3. Change one input and run it again. The interesting answer is the difference.
  4. If a handbook or a product label disagrees, believe that, not this page.

A salary divided by 2,080 hours prices you as an employee who is paid for meetings. Clients do not pay for your admin, sick days, or the week you hunt for work.

Worked example. $80,000 pay plus $6,000 costs is $86,000. At 25 billable hours for 46 weeks you have 1,150 hours. The rate is $74.78. At 15 billable hours it is $124.64. The job did not get harder. The unpaid hours did.

Costs are software, insurance, and gear you would not buy as an employee. Leave out personal rent unless you have a real office line.
