Fuel Cost for a Trip

How to use

  1. Fill the fields with numbers you measured or were quoted.
  2. Click Calculate.
  3. Change one input and run it again. The interesting answer is the difference.
  4. If a handbook or a product label disagrees, believe that, not this page.

The only mistake that matters is mixing units. Miles divided by liters-per-100km is nonsense. Pick one system and type economy as distance per unit of fuel.

Worked example. 300 miles at 30 mpg uses 10 gallons. At $3.50 a gallon the fuel is $35. Tolls and a headwind are not in the $35.

If your car shows liters per 100 km, convert first. Economy here is how far one unit of fuel takes you.
