Shein Marketplace Seller Math: Commission, Logistics and a Price That Survives Both
Sep 21, 2026 · Zelpura Editorial · All guides
Shein trained shoppers to expect a price that looks almost unserious. Sellers who join a marketplace with that kind of gravity often copy the price and hope volume will invent a margin. Volume multiplies whatever the unit economics already are. If the unit loses forty cents, ten thousand units lose four thousand dollars, plus the returns you have not modeled. This calculator takes sale price, a commission percent, product cost and a logistics dollar amount, because those are the four numbers that decide whether a style deserves a reorder.
Commission on fashion marketplaces is not a law of nature. It is a program: category, seller tier, promotional calendar, sometimes a different rate if the platform funds a coupon. Use the rate on your agreement. If the agreement says a range, plan at the top of the range and celebrate if the invoice is kinder. Logistics is the line fashion sellers romanticize away. A $6 top with $2.40 of cross-border or domestic last-mile cost is not a $6 top. Returns in apparel are structurally high. A 20 percent return rate is not a scandal in some categories. It is Tuesday. If you cannot resell the return as new, your product cost is not fully recovered. Put an expected return loss inside product cost or accept that the calculator's profit is a ceiling, not a forecast.
Walk a $14 dress. Commission at 16 percent is $2.24. Landed product cost is $4.80. Logistics is $2.10. Profit before returns is $4.86, about 35 percent. Now assume one in five comes back and you recover $2 of the $4.80. Expected return loss is about $0.56 per sale. A sponsored placement or a platform coupon you co-fund at $1.50 cuts the rest. You are not in crisis. You are also not in the business you described when you said 'Shein is easy money.' Easy was the buyer's experience. Yours is a spreadsheet.
Size curves are the silent cost. You did not sell one dress. You bought a run of sizes, and the unpopular size sits until you discount it below cost or destroy it. A calculator on a single unit cannot see a size run, so you have to. If 15 percent of units in a size never sell at full price, that dead stock is a cost of the sizes that did sell. Spread it back into product cost before you call the style a winner. Sellers who only analyze the size that sold out are auditing the victory lap.
Compare the same style on Temu and on your own site before you give the marketplace the exclusive. A marketplace gives you demand you did not have to create. It also gives you a fee stack and a customer who does not know your name. Direct is the opposite trade. Neither is morally better. The one with contribution margin after returns is the one that gets the next purchase order. Use the Temu calculator on the same cost. If both are thin, the problem is the cost or the price the market will bear, not which logo is on the checkout.
Type the commission you were charged, not the one from a recruiter's slide. Change logistics to the expensive lane, not the average lane, if a meaningful share of orders takes the expensive lane. A blended logistics number that hides a $6 rural delivery inside a $2 average will make every order look fine and the monthly invoice look mysterious. Mysteries in logistics are usually mix, not theft. Find the mix.
Shein's seller terms, commission tables and logistics programs change, and they differ by market. This page is a planning sketch. It is not the contract, not a guarantee of acceptance into any program, and not advice to sell a product you do not have the right to sell. If your settlement disagrees with the calculator, the settlement is the data and your inputs were a story. Update the story. Then decide whether the style is a business or a busy loss. Fashion marketplaces are excellent at making a loss look like momentum. Momentum is not a payout.
Returns in apparel are not a rounding error. A style that looks profitable at a 5 percent return rate can be a donation at 25 percent, which is a normal week for some sizes. Type the return rate you measured on the last drop, not the rate you hope the next photoshoot will earn. Then add the cost of the units you cannot resell. A pretty listing with a high return rate is a rental program you are funding. Price it as a rental, or stop sending that size.
Also separate ad spend from the marketplace fee. A campaign that 'only' takes another 12 percent of sales is a second fee with a friendlier name. Run the page with ads included before you scale the style that is winning the dashboard. Dashboards celebrate revenue. Your bank account celebrates what remains after the return bin. Those are different sports, and only one of them pays the freight invoice.
