Wallpaper waste comes from the repeat, not from clumsiness. A large repeat can turn a 33-foot roll into fewer usable drops than a plain paper of the same size.
Worked example. A 12-foot wall at 20.5 inches wide needs about 8 strips. An 8-foot height with no repeat fits 4 drops in a 33-foot roll, so 2 rolls cover the strips before extra.
