Temu Seller Fees: Why 13% Is Not the Number That Reaches Your Bank
Sep 26, 2026 · Zelpura Editorial · All guides
Temu is the fastest-growing marketplace most sellers still cannot price for. The headline commission looks friendly next to Etsy, and then the settlement report arrives with deductions nobody explained: commission on a different base than you assumed, a payment fee, a logistics or shipping deduction, a return reserve, and a promotional discount Temu applied on your behalf. Sellers who price on the headline rate discover the truth a month late, in a currency they did not expect.
This calculator asks for the four numbers that actually decide the outcome: the price the buyer paid, your cost of goods, the shipping you were charged, and the commission rate Temu applies to your category. It returns the fee stack, your net payout, and the margin — computed locally in your browser, with nothing uploaded and no account required.
Worked example. A $19.99 item, $4.20 cost of goods, $3.10 shipping, 15% commission. Commission is $3.00. Payment processing at roughly 2% is $0.40. Logistics and any promotional deduction add another $0.60. Total deductions: $4.00. Net payout: $19.99 minus $4.00 minus $4.20 minus $3.10, which is $8.69. Margin: 43%. That is a workable product.
Now change one assumption. Suppose Temu applies a 20% promotional discount to win the buy box and you still receive your listed price — the fee base does not fall, but your effective selling price in the market does, and your conversion comparison against a $19.99 competitor changes completely. Temu pricing is not a percentage problem; it is a positioning problem, and the calculator only tells you what a given rate does to your money.
The commission base is the first thing to check. Some categories calculate commission on the item price alone, others on the item plus shipping, and Temu has changed the treatment as the platform matured. Enter the rate you see on your actual settlement report, not the rate in a blog post. If your invoice and this page disagree, the invoice wins.
Returns are the second thing to check. Temu buyers return at higher rates than buyers on craft marketplaces, and on low-ticket items the return postage often exceeds the profit. A 5% return rate on a $19.99 item, with you absorbing the return leg once in a while, belongs in your cost as an expected value even though it is not on the supplier invoice. Sellers who leave it at zero are not optimistic; they are unaudited.
Shipping is where Temu margin quietly disappears. If Temu charges you a logistics fee and also deducts a shipping subsidy, you are paying twice for the same journey. Keep the two as separate lines in your own accounting even if the calculator combines them, because they respond to different levers — the first to your packaging and weight, the second to your negotiated terms.
Compare before you commit. Temu suits low-cost, lightweight, non-perishable goods with no personalisation and no craft story. It punishes heavy items, fragile items, made-to-order items and anything with a returns problem. Run the same numbers through the Etsy Fee Calculator and the eBay Final Value Fee Calculator before you decide where a product belongs.
Currency is the last haircut. If your payout lands through Payoneer or Wise, the FX spread is another percentage on top of everything above. A 1.5% spread across a year of Temu sales is not a rounding error — it is often larger than the difference between Temu and Etsy. Run the payout through the Payoneer / Wise calculator after this one, not instead of it.
Re-run this calculator monthly with the real numbers from your settlement report. Temu has changed its fee structure more than once, and a price set on last quarter's assumptions is this quarter's loss. The sellers who re-check quarterly reprice on time; the sellers who check never discover the change in a payout they no longer understand.
Frequently asked questions
What commission does Temu charge sellers?
Temu commission varies by category, commonly in the 13-18% range, and it is charged on top of payment processing and logistics deductions. Always use the rate on your own settlement report rather than a published headline figure.
Is Temu or Etsy better for sellers?
They serve different products. Temu suits low-cost, lightweight, non-personalised goods with high volume. Etsy suits handmade, personalised and craft products where buyers pay for provenance. Compare both with real numbers before committing.
Does Temu charge a listing or monthly fee?
Temu generally does not charge a separate listing fee, but it deducts commission, payment processing and logistics fees per order, and it may apply promotional discounts that affect your effective price.
How do I calculate my Temu profit per order?
Take the buyer price, subtract commission, payment processing, logistics and any promotional deduction, then subtract your cost of goods and shipping. This calculator performs all of it locally and shows the margin.
